Some Common FAQ’s:
Q:) What is the session fee and does it include any prints?
A:) The session fee is $350 and covers shooting time, editing, and the online gallery. I also include a Facebook sneak peek the day after the session of a few favorites and a blog post that is usually posted within 2 weeks of my very favorite images. Prints and files are purchased separately and here is a listing of those costs.
Q:) Can we shoot in more than 1 location?
A:) Yes, but the shoot is 1 hour from start to finish, including travel time, so keep that in mind when choosing different shooting locations. I really suggest sticking with one location where we can walk around (park, small town, beach, etc.).
Q:) Speaking of locations…can you help me choose?
A:) Absolutely! Depending on the look you want I can recommend a few favorite locations and figure out what works best for your portraits. My family sessions are lifestyle sessions, think about things you love to do as a family—you want to bake cookies in your kitchen…let’s do that! Want to go fishing by the river…absolutely! Walk through the woods…my favorite. :) Draw with sidewalk chalk on your driveway…please invite me to photograph this!
Q:) Do you travel for portrait sessions?
A:) Absolutely! I travel within an hour of zipcode 02155 but if it will take longer than an hour an automatic $150 travel fee is incurred.
Q:) How many people are included in a “regular” family shoot?
A:) A family shoot consists of 5 people. Anything larger than 5 people will incur an automatic $25/per person fee. If you have a very large extended family with several different families wanting their own separate family portrait, please inquire as this may change the layout of the shoot (and the fee) slightly.
Q:) How many outfit changes can we have?
A:) As many as you like but having more than one outfit takes away from your time. If you are a family with little kids I would really suggest just having one outfit as it takes away from your shooting time and changing clothes can make for cranky kids. Cranky kids don’t take really good photos. :(
Q:) What do I wear?!
A:) Wear whatever makes you feel like you! These are your portraits, what do you want to hang on your wall? I’m happy to photograph you anywhere wearing anything…but let’s ditch the matching white shirts and jeans and just be who you are.
Q:) What is the best time of day to schedule the shoot?
A:) Usually all sessions are booked 2 hours before sunset—that way we get that beautiful low sunset light. In the summer this can be as late as 6pm and in the fall it can be as early as 4pm. If your kids are very young this obviously needs to coincide with nap-time so please inquire with me on the best time based on your schedule and I’ll recommend timing based on light. Sometimes family sessions with little ones are done in the early morning.
Q:) What if it rains?
A:) If it rains during the session we will work to find a covered area to photograph in. I always watch the weather leading up to your shoot and we can reschedule for rain, or find a rain location.
Q:) What if one of us is sick or something happens and we need to reschedule?
A:) Outside of inclement weather I do allow one rescheduling session in case of emergencies.
Q:) Can I buy all of the files for my personal printing and posting uses?
A:) Of course! The high resolution USB comes with personal printing rights and a listing of my favorite local and online photography labs for you to get the best print quality. It also includes a “web and Facebook” folder with small web-sized files that are color corrected and sharpened for perfect online uploading.
Q:) Awesome…I’m ready to book! What do I need to do?
A:) Wonderful—I am so excited to photograph your family! Just shoot me an email with a few dates in mind and once we settle on a date and location I will send you a link to fill out the contract online. When the contract comes in I will send a link for online payment (full payment is required to book portrait sessions), and once those two things are in you’re officially on the calendar!
