There’s something about winter weddings that feels especially intentional. Maybe it’s the way the city slows down, or how everything feels a little quieter. Alycia and Maynor’s January intimate wedding at the Boston Public Library was exactly that — intimate, emotional, and personal.
The Boston Public Library offers a very special option for couples who want something meaningful without the scale of a traditional wedding day: Monday weddings in the Guastavino Room. Tucked beneath the library, the Guastavino Room feels timeless with it’s architectural details, soaring tile ceilings, soft light, and sense of history. For book lovers, this room is perfect with it’s brick arches and book walkway (yes, I said book walkway) lining the upper walls. It’s one of those spaces that doesn’t need much—it is simply beautiful as is.
Let’s get to the photos, since I know that’s why you are here.

A Quiet Moment Before the Ceremony
Before we ever walked down to the library, Alycia and Maynor shared one of the most emotional parts of the day.
In their hotel room at the beautiful Fairmont Copley Plaza they exchanged private vows. No audience. No pressure. Just the two of them (and me to document it) with words meant for one another. They took turns reading, voices breaking, tears falling. They cried. I cried. It was one of those moments that reminds you why intimate weddings are so powerful—because there’s room and time to really feel everything.
I just love those quiet, unscripted moments.

An Intimate Ceremony in the Guastavino Room
After the vows we walked down to Boston Public Library where their friends and family were waiting to begin the ceremony in the Guastavino Room. A favorite moment was during the ceremony when their five-year-old son brought the rings to his parents and stood holding onto them while they said their vows. It was perfect.
These 1-hour weddings don’t have any extra fluff, but are perfect for a shorter ceremony that includes your family and friends. After the ceremony I love to take the last few minutes to take some photos in this incredible space.

Winter Portraits in the City
January in Boston is not for the faint of heart, but Alycia embraced the season fully. For outdoor portraits, she slipped into a faux fur coat, which felt both practical and elegant. It was a perfect winter touch against the classic stone and city backdrop.
The cold keeps things brisk (I don’t want to freeze anyone out) but it also keeps everything focused. We move with intention, enjoying the moments and not lingering too long in that winter wind. The results showcase the beautiful gothic facade of the Boston Public Library and stay honest and true to the day. Just a few minutes outside is well worth the bit of cold we have to endure.

Why Intimate Winter Weddings Work So Beautifully
Alycia and Maynor’s day is such a beautiful reminder that weddings don’t need to be big to be profound. An Intimate winter wedding, especially in a place as beautiful as the Boston Public Library, invites you to slow down, strip things back, and focus on the two most important people of the day.
This wedding day wasn’t about tradition for tradition’s sake. It was about vows spoken softly, a child’s presence at the heart of the ceremony, and choosing each other. And honestly? Those are the moments that stay with you forever—and the ones your future grandbabies will feel when they flip through the photos someday.
If you’re looking to capture your own intimate wedding (whether or not your choose the Boston Public Library) feel free to reach out and connect—I’d love to be a part of your day!
If you’re considering an intimate wedding or elopement in Boston—especially in the quieter winter months—I’d love to document it in a way that feels honest and true to you.
